What is ADHD?
ADHD is a condition that causes difficulty paying attention (inattention) and/or hyperactivity. People with ADHD may notice that they are struggling to pay attention in different settings, such as when they are studying, when they are at work, and when they are socialising. Some people with ADHD can focus very well on something that they are interested in (hyperfocus). ADHD can also impact memory, organisational skills and time-management.
Getting the right support enables people with ADHD to thrive. There are many ways a person with ADHD can be supported in their educational, occupational and social lives, such as through environmental changes, finding new ways of approaching tasks, assistive technology and specialist coaching.

ADHD assessments.
Dyslexia South offers adult ADHD assessments (over 16-years) to identify ADHD as a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD). The assessment will investigate and highlight your challenges with attention, and make recommendations to support you in the workplace or within education. You can use this to apply for DSA (Disabled Student Allowance) and Access to Work. This is a non-medical diagnosis and so does not give access to medication. In under 16-year olds we can offer an ADHD screen which can be helpful in obtaining an onward referral for a child ADHD assessment and the report will make educational recommendations to support your attention difficulties if indicated.
